Dance teachers/coaches are considered to be role models to their young dancers. Please ensure that whilst at competitions that you:

  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out on our website
  • Avoid the use of swearing or foul language
  • Behave respectfully to other dance schools and teachers
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol or taking drugs
  • Be responsible for the conduct of all teaching assistants, dancers and spectators
  • Avoid communicating with any students from other dance schools without knowledge of the young persons dance school and parent/guardian
Recommendations for good teaching practice:

We suggest that dance schools/teachers consider implementing the following to maintain a professional approach to the industry

  • To be fully trained and qualified to teach dance
  • To keep updated with annual subscriptions to keep the qualification valid
  • Insurance
  • DBS check for teachers, assistants, volunteers and any other staff that are in direct contact with children in your care  i.e. reception staff, cleaners
  • Suitable Child Protection & Safeguarding policies and procedures and all interested parties know who to report any safeguarding concerns to.
  • PPL licence
  • PRS licence
  • First aid training
  • First aid provisions i.e. first aid kit, accident book
  • Fire procedures
  • A chaperone licence for teachers attending competitions is also a useful tool for keeping updated with safeguarding and guidelines for children taking part in performances/competitions (see children in entertainment page)
  • Written consent from parents to the teacher giving permission for you taking photos/videos and using for publicity purposes
  • Written consent from parents to the teacher confirming that they understand that dancers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will take full responsibility for them whilst at the event. If a dancer is attending without a parent they will require a licensed chaperone for the event – if this is the case please speak to us so that we can advise accordingly
  • Written consent from parents to the teacher declaring their child well and suitably fit to take part in competitions

THESE ARE ONLY SUGGESTED GUIDELINES. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT TEACHERS SEEK INDEPENDENT GUIDANCE FROM A LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE TO BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR OF LEGISLATION IN RELATION TO THEIR BUSINESS.
