Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct (Teachers & Dance Schools)
Dance teachers and coaches are considered role models to their dancers. We expect all teachers attending our competitions to uphold a high standard of behaviour at all times.
Teacher Expectations
All teachers must:
- Follow all rules and regulations as set out on our website
- Avoid the use of swearing or inappropriate language
- Behave respectfully towards other dance schools, teachers and event staff
- Refrain from drinking alcohol or taking drugs during the event
- Take responsibility for the conduct of all dancers, teaching assistants and spectators attending with their school
- Avoid direct communication with students from other dance schools without the knowledge of their teacher and parent/guardian
Failure to meet these expectations may result in action being taken by the event organiser.
Recommended Good Practice
We strongly recommend that all dance schools implement the following to maintain a safe and professional standard:
- Appropriate training and qualifications to teach dance
- Up-to-date memberships or subscriptions where applicable
- Valid insurance
- DBS checks for teachers, assistants, volunteers and any staff working directly with children (including reception staff and cleaners)
- Clear safeguarding and child protection policies, with all staff aware of reporting procedures
- PPL and PRS licences where required
- First aid training and appropriate first aid provision (including a first aid kit and accident book)
- Fire safety procedures
- Consideration of holding a chaperone licence for teachers attending competitions
Parental Consent & Responsibilities
We strongly recommend that dance schools obtain:
- Written consent for photography and video use
- Written confirmation that dancers under 16 will be accompanied by a parent or guardian
- Written confirmation that dancers are fit and well to take part in competitions
Important Note
These are recommended guidelines. We strongly advise that dance schools seek independent legal guidance to ensure they are fully compliant with current legislation relevant to their business.
